If you have been reading my blog since its inception just three weeks ago, then you will know of the detest I feel towards wine publications. If not, shame on you, and before you continue reading this post you should read My Story, and Convictions to gain a better understanding of the root of this detest. I should stop right here and say this only pertains to the magazines that focus on wine and spirits. I have no quarrel with food magazines who also cover wine, because they have not been corrupted by the blind tasting sniff, swirl, spit, and score with no clue what is in the glass(it may not even be wine) that has bastardized the wine industry.
For those of you who share my thoughts and the number of you that I am sure will have your eyes opened to this truth over the course of the next few years it is time to embrace the revolution that is Mutineer Magazine. A new wine and beverage magazine set in the world that we live in, brought to you with no pretense rather the intention to inform and empower.
I received a copy of their premier issue and I have to say well done gang. The magazine opens with a letter from the President Alan Kropf
Dear Fellow Mutineers,
It has been almost a year now since the concept of the Mutineer was born from the loins of raw passion, blind optimism, and reckless resolve. Since then, it has grown faster than any of us expected, ultimately culminating into www.mutineermagazine.com and the magazine you are holding in your hands at this very moment.
The Mutineer is based on the idea that the world of wine, beer, spirits, and all fine beverages has been somehow perverted within the void that exists between maker and drinker. This is a void that has overstayed its welcome, and it is a void that has now found itself in our crosshairs.
It is of our opinion that the people, ideas, and culture surrounding the world of fine beverage are far more relevent and interesting than countless pages of beverage ratings. We, the Mutineer, will NEVER reduce something as complex and beautiful as a fine beverage to a mere number.
Our editors are some of the brightest young minds in their fields, and our writers have been given the creative freedom necessary to bring you the most cutting edge and compelling stories possible. We don’t presume that we will change the landscape of fine beverage, but we can do our damndest to try, and you’d be surprised at what you can accomplish with a little raw passion, blind optimism, and reckless resolve.
Welcome to the Mutineer.
Sincerely Yours,
Alan Kropf, President, Mutineer Magazine
This letter leads into a series of very well written informative articles that range from my two all time favorite movies, The Big Lebowski and Strange Brew, to a great article on The Great Oregon Wine Mutiny , sake, cocktail recipes and everything in between. The layout is great, the articles hit home, and the visual aesthetics are very pleasing. I suggest ordering your subscription now and help change the landscape of Wine and Beverage as we know it in America. By the way, there is not a point or vintage chart to be found anywhere on these pages, only what matters, wine made with honesty and conviction and the people who are making it.
Billed as, "Not your parents beverage magazine", the target audience is a younger generation of wine drinkers, but is certainly not limited to them. Anyone with a bit of intelligence, an appreciation for a sense of humor and artistic creativity will certainly enjoy and and get lost for a couple hours in this great new offering.
Thank God I know that I am not the only one out there with these opinions. We who share these ideals need to band together in an effort to revolutionize the world we love that is fine beverage. Viva La Revolution.
I like the magazines... nce very nice info!!! thanks
