My wife, Rebekah, is my biggest fan and biggest critic at the same time. When I bounce ideas and thoughts off of her she is always honest and quick to point out how I can sometimes be perceived by those around me. While I have a tendency to appear arrogant and at times can be a self-righteous "preacher" when it comes to the things I believe it is because my belief is firmly embedded. I am also very open and want other people to see things the way I do. I really am not an arrogant know-it-all, in fact the only way I have learned as much as I have is by being humble and asking thousands of questions of people who know much more than I.
That being said, they are just my beliefs and my preferences. I understand that not many people see things the way I do, and that is alright. There are many different palates and taste preferences and my thoughts are among many out there. I do think that my way of thinking is unique and has a lot of insight to offer when trying to discover your own tastes and that is my aim. To help people understand wine for themselves and to promote the wines I love. If you read my blog in its entirety and not just one post I think that you will see my heart and if anyone has any questions about anything please do not hesitate to ask.
Right now the wine market is dominated by one taste. I want to offer another taste. If you do not agree with me that is fine. You have your way and I have mine, but do not for a minute think that yours is the only way and that I am trying to pigeonhole all winemakers into doing things the way I want them to be done. There is already someone by the name of Mr. Parker doing that. He has plenty of followers and will always have them. I do not like the wines he likes and have not found anyone promoting the domestic wines I love...wines with balance, elegance, and beauty. I am simply seeking out the winemakers who do believe the same as I do and then promote their wines. This is my driving passion and force.
Just to let you know where I am coming from I will let you in on other preferences I have which may seem arrogant and particular, but it is simply the way I have found to enjoy this life. I have not eaten fast food in years (except In & Out, which I do not consider fast food). I would rather heat things up in the oven than the microwave. I prefer organic produce and hate to eat anything with preservatives. I abhor traditional radio stations and have fallen in love with Pandora Internet Radio. I hate reality TV, and wish that the Oil Companies would go bankrupt. I think our government is corrupt and inept, and I despise the war in Iraq. I always prefer the book to the movie, and would rather read philosophy than the latest trendy magazine. I am an old soul searching for wisdom, truth, and enjoyment in this life. All of this has natural overflowed into my thinking of what wine should be. Love me or hate me it is who I am.
